Devotion Time - Day 7

Hi there! Today continues with a water theme and looks at Jesus walking on water! These "water" days are some of our boys favourite....especially little C, who would play in water all day long if he was allowed! I hope your family can have some fun with it and enjoying playing together while learning God's word! God Bless! Kate xo

Day 7

Matthew 14:22-33, Mark 6:45-51, John 6:16-20 “Jesus walks on water”p.364

Treasure Hunt Resources: Items that sink and float and something to hold water!

Beginning activity/Chat:  Send the children to find their “treasure”. Look at the treasure hunt items and talk about them. What are they? What are they used for? Are they heavy or light? Do you think they would sink or float? Head to some water to test them all out and discuss sinking and floating.
Make a list of the things that sunk and those that floated.  Talk about the similar heavy and light properties of the objects in each list. Discuss whether they think we are heavy or light? What do they think would happen if someone put us in water and we couldn’t swim, would we sink or float? Discuss whether we would be able to walk on top of water or whether that would be impossible!
Today in our true story from the bible we are going to hear about Jesus doing something very `amazing on water!

“Jesus walk on water” Beginner’s Bible, p. 364
IN THIS TRUE STORY FROM THE BIBLE WE SEE ANOTHER AMAZING MIRACLE -  JESUS WALKING ON WATER! HOW INCREDIBLE HE IS!
Questions:
1.        What was the amazing miracle that Jesus did in this story? (He walked on the water)
2.        Why did Jesus walk out on the water ? (The disciples boat was in trouble on the water in a storm and they needed him to rescue them)
3.        What did the disciples do when the storm stopped? (They worshipped Jesus)
4.        Do we need to worship and trust in Jesus like the disciples? (Yes!)

Just imagine being out in a boat fishing and seeing someone walking out on top of the water towards you! The disciples musty have been rubbing their eyes and thinking they were seeing imaginary things! Jesus is so powerful and so amazing that he can do many incredible miracles, like walking on water. How thankful we should be to worship such a loving and powerful God!

If you had extra time you could use a colouring sheet such as found here (http://www.sermons4kids.com/walking-on-water-colorpg.htm) and with two copies cut Jesus out of them and colour him and stick him onto a paddle pop stick and with the other stick the boat on a piece of cardboard and draw in more waves and cut a slit along the bottom so that you can poke the stick through and make Jesus “walk” across the water to the boat!

Prayer:
Thank you Lord Jesus that you are God and that you can do such incredible things! Please help us to keep learning from your word, the bible, just how amazing you are. Amen.

Memory Verse Activities:
Continue practicing the song and actions.
Continuing on the water theme, maybe you could write the words on the path outside and use a water pistol to squirt them as you say them....or have buckets to match pictures from the verse (A heart, a world, a baby...) and they have to race to fill them in the right order and then say the verse together....or use bath crayons to draw their own pictures on the walls during their bath and then practice saying it!
